Brass isn’t bad luck. It’s chemistry.
Brown hair has warm pigment underneath. Lightener exposes it on the way up — orange first, then yellow. Toner cancels what’s left, so your blonde lands cool, beige or golden on purpose.
- Gloss or toner every 6–8 weeks. Toner fades before the blonde does.
- Purple shampoo once or twice a week. Not every wash — too much turns blonde dull.
- Heat protectant, every time. High heat pulls warmth forward.
Foils or hand-painted? Depends on your mornings.
Foil highlights
The brightest, most defined blonde, from the root down. Best if you want to go very light and don’t mind a touch-up every 6–8 weeks.
Hand-painted blonde
Softer brightness that grows out without a line. Best if you want lower upkeep. See balayage.
A bit of both
Foils around your face for pop, hand-painting through the back for an easy grow-out. Often the best of both.

Can I go blonde in one appointment?
If you’re within about 3–4 levels of your goal, usually yes. Bigger jumps are safer in two or more visits about 4–6 weeks apart. Try the Roadmap above to see yours.
Why does my blonde turn brassy?
Lightener exposes the warm pigment in your hair — orange first, then yellow. Toner cancels it, but toner fades. A gloss every 6–8 weeks and purple shampoo once or twice a week keep it in check.
How often do blonde highlights need a touch-up?
About every 6–8 weeks for foils close to the root, and 10–12 weeks for softer, hand-painted blonde. A toner between visits keeps the color clean.
Can dark brown hair go blonde?
Yes, in stages. Dark hair passes through red, orange and gold on the way up. We lift it over two or three visits and tone each time, so it looks intentional at every step.
Will highlights cover my gray?
